  • World Almanac for Kids - In this virtual fact book, each subject area is broken down into subtopics for easy navigation, and colorful graphics enhance the information.
  • Information Please - Includes Information Please Almanacs, a biography database, a dictionary, an atlas, and the Columbia Encyclopedia online.
  • The Old Farmer's Almanac - This site contains features from the print edition which began publication in 1792 such as weather forecasts, weekly wisdoms, and gardening tips.

  • Headline Spot:  Kids - This gateway puts a wealth of current online news resources at children's fingertips. Just indicate state and city you want to find. The site will list all newspapers for a given state broken down by local areas. I.e. Find Times Beacon Record (Setauket) and Newsday.
  • Kid's Newsroom 
  • Online NewsHour Extra - Focuses on issues that have been in the news rather than specific breaking news stories.  Students will find an archive of past features.
  • Scholastic News Zone - An E-zine featuring plenty of news and fun features with news reports available for students at different grade levels.

  • Education Index: General Reference - An alphabetical list of reference sources for young learners with brief annotations. Young researchers may also click on the first letter of topic to access faster.  This site uses some animation and is visually appealing to a young audience.
  • KidsClick! Facts/Current Events - Developed by librarians for kids, this section of Kids Click focuses on Reference Resources and is subdivided into specific resource tools, dictionaries, encyclopedia etc. The site also offers a word search tool.
  • LibrarySpot - A great place to start a search, this site offers numerous resources with links that have short and easy to understand descriptions. Each reference resource offers several sub- divisions that are clear and well defined.
